Eagle-Osprey Surveys in Northeastern WI

NEW Audubon helps support an annual survey of eagle and osprey nests in northeastern WI by the DNR which looks at active nests and their success at raising young.

The 2011 results are just in. Here is a portion of the data, relevant for the counties of our membership area.

In 2011, 203 nests were checked for activity by an overflight, and young were measured and tagged. While nests were generally inspected for young in this survey, the previous 3 years only a fly-over was done, due to budget limitations. Support from non-governmental sources, such as NEW Audubon, helped to bring the full study back. Percent successful nests have increased over the past 10 years (assuming the 3 years of missing data followed the trend).
